100s of Drug Addicts Without Shelter As Police Torch Their Nest In Kabul

Wednesday, August 05, 2015
Kabul (BNA) Hundreds of drug addicts have been left without shelter after police torched their nest in Kabul.
In their anti-drug campaign police went to the central living place of drug addicts in Kabul and set on fire all of their belongings.
Around 500 drug addicts were estimated to be living under Pul-i-Sukhta Bridge in 6th police district.
After continued complaints from local residents, police on Tuesday removed them from that area and set on fire anything they left behind before running away from police.
Residents of Pul-i-Sukhta area say that the drug addicts were stealing from their shops and homes.
Kabul police chief says it will only take a week to collect all of the drug addicts from the city. Abdul Rahman Rahimi said in a press conference today that “there is no space to keep them in.”
Afghanistan has about 1.6 million drug addicts but the functioning clinics can only house few thousands of them.
