Foreign Minister meets US Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Pakistan

Kabul (BNA): Dr. Zalmi Rassoul Minister of Foreign Affairs met with James Dobins US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan and discussed progress on talks on the security and defense agreement between Afghanistan and the US, peace process, regional cooperation, and the process for transition of security responsibility and preparations for holding of elections in Hamal of 1393.
Dr. Zalmi Rassoul said that the security transition process was moving ahead in good manners and with the start of the fifth phase of this process we would be witness to a big step in this process.
This indeed is a significant step towards efforts for standing on our own feet.
He expressed the hope that with the formation of the new government in Pakistan, Pakistan would strengthen her relations with Afghanistan and would cooperate seriously in the struggle against terrorism and ending the bloodshed in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Minister also called holding of election as very important and said that the government and related organs to the elections from now to adopt effective measures   and carry out effort in order the process of elections go smoothly with the participation of eligible people in a just and peaceful atmosphere.
He added that the people of Afghanistan are not prepared to bow to darkness and ignorance and they are eager to preserve the past ten year’s gains that they have obtained them with sustaining serious difficulties.
Regarding the finalization of the security agreement between Afghanistan and the US, he said that Afghanistan wished to have friendly long-term relations with the US in which the interests of Afghanistan should be reflected and incorporated.
Meanwhile, Ershad Ahmadi deputy minister for political Affairs in his separate meeting with James Dobins and Douglas Lot US National Security Advisor discussed a series of issues related to further consolidation of Afghan-US ties.
Both sides also debated the framework for elections and bilateral accountability of Tokyo and also regional issues and bilateral mechanism for deepening of mutual relations.
