Shafaq Operation; Heavy Blow To The Taliban

Monday April 18, 2016

Kabul (BNA) The Taliban group launched their wide (Omari) offensives on the northern province of Kunduz, three days after announcing their spring offensives, with the provincial police chief assuring the militants’ offensives would be haltered. The Taliban militants in a coordinated simultaneous attack on the Kunduz city and six adjacent districts failed to retake even a small area in the northern strategic province, where they have reportedly suffered heavy losses through Shafaq Operation, according to the chief. The government reacted against the spring offensives, announced by the Taliban a mere war propaganda aimed at spreading fear and dread among the people, indicating that the militants would spare no effort to attack the government security checkpoints. Undoubtedly, the Taliban’s offensives, either propaganda or a move aimed at creating challenges for the government, would something should be discussed separately, but the people believe in the capability of their soldiers who are still in the frontline to defend the country’s territorial integrity on their own and would undeniably be able to win the war. In the last several years, the Taliban also threatened to launch spring offensives against the government security forces, but failed to reach their target as the country’s security forces could respond them irrecusably, but their potential threats – even if too small – should not be underestimated.
Nevertheless, will the Taliban’s proclamation of spring offensives, while the highly wasteful peace negotiation processes is launched by the government send a negative message on peace and security? So, the security entities of the country, should adopt suppressing measures against the terrorists’ plans based on offensives rather than to remain in reaction position, anymore. Keeping the security forces with high morale and firm war plan against the terrorists is vital for the government. This should be considered that only pushing back the militants and their temporal retreat would not be enough to help restore security and forcing them to join peace talks with the government, but the government should drive strong force behind them to retake their positions and strongholds and pummel them enough to lose their anti-government power of reaction and offensives. The Taliban’s so-called Omari Spring Offensive clearly indicated that, this year, they spare no efforts to shed bloods and kill innocents, however after the death of their fierce and bloodthirsty, as they committed the same action in the past nearly 18 years.
