US to Support Afghan Peace Talks, Upcoming Presidential Elections, Pompeo

Kabul (BNA)  President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani received US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at his office the other day and discussed enhancing Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) capacity and movement, bilateral relations, peace talks and upcoming presidential elections, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
Lauding bolstering ANDSF movement and capacity, US secretary of state added that Afghan security forces have shown better abilities over the last months, the statement added.
Both sides also expressed happiness on bolstering ties between the government of Afghanistan and United States of America.
President Ghani said that the government of Afghanistan and its international partners have shown their will and preparations to find a solution to end long-lasting political crisis in the country and now it is the time that the Taliban and their supporters also show such preparations.
Thanking US. Efforts on Afghan peace process, the president added that friend countries and international partners are expected to avoid outspread and individual efforts, adding peace efforts will follow with fruitful results when they are made with coordination and unitedly.
During the meeting which was attended by Chief Executive. Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, he said that majority of Afghans ask for lasting peace in the country on a condition if achievements and values made on Afghan people sacrifices not to be lost.
Mr. Pompeo said that the US would support peace talks and upcoming presidential elections and is ready to cooperate in this respect.
In his turn, President Ghani stressed that to guarantee a transparent and fair elections, friend countries and organizations should not only increase the number of observers but also coordinate with elections partners.
