Election Results Should Guarantee Legitimacy of Upcoming Government: Qanooni

Kabul (BNA) First Vice-President, Mohammad Younus Qanooni in a meeting yesterday with Chairman of Asia Foundation Board Karel Aiken Berry considered formation of the national unity government after the election process as a way out of the country’s current crisis. Presidential press office reported BNA, at the meeting; First Vice-President recalled that the election process should have an end the results of which guarantee legacy of upcoming government.
First Vice-President also praised Asia Foundation Board’s Chairman Karel Aiken Berry for his works in Afghanistan when he was the US ambassador to Kabul, saying his efforts were a part of today’s history of Afghanistan.
During the meeting, Karel Aiken Berry while expressing happiness for coming back to Kabul after a couple of years hoped insecurity and election problems would soon end and the country would witness stability and security.
In his speech, Aiken Berry supported establishment of a national unity government in Afghanistan, adding all wanted completion of the country’s election process.
According to another report, First Vice-President Mohammad Younus Qanooni met yesterday with British ambassador to Kabul Richard Stagg.
During the meeting, First Vice-President enlightened related to recent progresses in the election process, saying political efforts were underway for reaching agreements between the two candidates.
First Vice-President added that they hoped lack of time would not avoid the election process to reach considerable results as Afghan people were waiting in order that election maintained legitimacy of upcoming government.
In the meeting, British ambassador to Kabul expressed happiness over closeness of two electoral teams in connection with political agreement, saying we believe that the vote audit process is not necessarily going on but we see that a number of votes had been invalidated in the process, which was key for transparency of the process.
