Iran Hands Over 16 Afghans Prisoners To Afghan Officials

Kabul (BNA) Based on an agreement signed between Afghanistan and Iran in 2007 for exchanging prisoners, the country has recently handed over 16 Afghan prisoners imprisoned in the country to Afghan officials.
Four women and two men were among the prisoners imprisoned in Iran in convicting to drug-trafficking, selling and using of drugs in the country. 
According to BNA, the prisoners were handed over yesterday to Afghan officials in Islam Qala bordering Iran and would spent their jail term in Herat Prison.
It is worth mentioning that nearly 5000 Afghans are imprisoned in Iran. In 2007, presidents of Iran and Afghanistan signed an agreement related to handing over those prisoners imprisoned in one of the two countries and wanted to spend their prison term in their home country to officials of their relevant country.
According to MoFA, Iran has promised to hand over further Afghan prisoners imprisoned in Iran to Afghan officials.
