Leader of Pakistan Muslim (N) Respond To President Karzai’s Letter On Need For Enhanced Cooperation Against Terrorism, Extremism

Sunday November 18 2012
Kabul (BNA) Nawaz Sharif, Leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) has responded to a letter President Karzai recently sent him as well as other Pakistani political and religious leaders on the need for joint and close cooperation between the two countries in effectively fighting the menaces of terrorism and extremism.
In the letters, President Karzai had also condemned the attack on Malala Yousufzai.
In a letter he sent to President Karzai, he expressed his gratitude and appreciation to President Karzai for sharing his thoughts on the attack against the young and innocent Malala and wrote, “I am in full agreement with you that this is a crime that can neither be ignored nor glossed over, irrespective of one’s personal beliefs or political affiliations.
In fact, there can be no justification for acts of terror.”
Nawaz Sharif hailed President Karzai’s sentiment and feelings as Nobel and said, “Both our countries have suffered enormously from the scourge of terrorism.
I myself have been the target of a terrorist attack.
Consequently, I have given this matter my deep thought over many years and am convinced that this huge challenge confronting us all necessitates that all right thinking people, especially scholars and men of letters, come together and engage in a serious and sincere dialogue on ways and means of overcoming this menace.”
The Leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N) adds: this is not only an attack on an innocent person by misguided or ignorant elements, but a symptom of a malaise that has afflicted society in many Muslim countries, including Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The letter concludes that “use of mere force against those engaged in acts of militancy and terrorism would not suffice.
A far more comprehensive approach that includes massive investment in education, job creation and administrative reforms that ensure good governance would be essential to bringing about a meaningful change in the attitudes the thinking of people.”
