Political analyst of BNA writes:
Recently the Reporters without Borders (RWB) have released its annual report on press and media situation in the world.  In this report the situation of mass media and journalist has been assessed in 179 countries of the world.
RWB regarding the freedom of expression and press in Afghanistan says there is 20% improvement in freedom of expression and press in the country during 2012 than the previous year. This international agency expressing satisfaction on media situation in Afghanistan considers it as an incentive for further growth of democracy in the country.
Based on the annual report of RWB one can evaluate that the situation of freedom of press and expression in Afghanistan is much better than the countries of the region. No journalist has been convicted for media violation. Even in this critical situation no media has been threaten for ending its publication and broadcasting and finally so far no media has complained about state imposing censorship because there is no censorship at all.
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan strongly supports the freedom of expression and media in the country. Establishing the commission of media violations has tried to provide an opportunity for journalists and media authorities to settle media related issues. Currently 75 private TV stations, 175 local radio stations, a number of printed media and web sites are operating freely and independently in the country without any harassment. It has been considered as the biggest achievement of the state.
Dr. Sayed Makhdoom Raheen the minister of information and culture has persistently considered himself as a true servant of press in the country and seriously supported the freedom of media as a representative of Afghan government.
The Afghan authorities believe the freedom of media improves the thinking capabilities of the citizens and reveals injustice and indifferences and finally puts the country on the right track of progress and development. It is of great honor that in Afghanistan there is much tolerance before the journalists and they can openly and honestly criticize the activities carried out in state departments and the staffs of those deportments consider themselves accountable for their performances. While the people of Afghanistan appreciate the works of journalists and media, expect them to avoid all kinds of discriminations and work toward ensuring national interests to further increase the credibility of media before the people. The authorities of the media using the opportunity should work for further enlightment of people and act according to national interests in order democracy further strengthen in the community.
