Two-Hundred Fifty Nine Voting Centers Facing Insecurity

Kabul (BNA) As security is a main staple for holding presidential elections, officials at MoI say 259 voting centers are facing with security threats in the country.
Sediq Sediqi, a spokesperson for MoI told journalists in a news conference in Kabul 259 polling centers were facing with security threats and the ministry was trying to reduce the threats, adding steps have also been taken for protection of employees working for IEC in the country.
The statement made amid a number of political groups are stressing on not holding the elections due to insecurity in the country.
Meanwhile, a number of employees for IEC have been attacked in the past few days in the country, but spokesman of MoI stressed that maintaining security was in top priorities of the ministry.
“For implementing better security, senior deputy minister of interior in security affairs has visited various provinces particularly those provinces facing with security threats and assessed conditions and planning for changing the security condition in insecure areas,” Sediqi said.
Related to recent report issued by AXFAM about women police and their problems, spokesman for MoI rejected the report and considered it as baseless, saying ministry of interior was paying particular consideration to condition of female police and trying for their capacity building.
Related to current insecurities in Badakhshan province, Sediqi said enemies of Afghan people attacked on Keran and Manjan district of the province the other day and captured a number of areas in the district, adding ANP have tactically temporary withdrew from the area and will soon launch and operation for cleansing the areas from the presence of the enemies.
