President Ghani, CE Abdullah Condemn Killing of Journalist In Helmand

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah condemned the killing of a journalist in Helmand on Friday and called it a cowardly act.
A statement from presidential office said the president was shocked by the death of Ariana News’ journalist, NematullahZaheer, in an explosion in Helmand. “Terrorists and Afghanistan’s enemies proved once again that they do not believe in freedom of speech and they can do any inhuman act to reach their ends, as they did this by killing NematullahZaheer,” president Ghani said as quoted in the statement. “These terrorist acts will never prevent the freedom of speech and will never weaken reporters’ will to deliver information to the nation,” the president added in the statement. Meanwhile, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah at a gathering on Friday condemned the killing of the journalist and said terrorists have no mercy on anyone.He said attacking journalists is one of the tactics used by terrorists and that security forces should do more efforts for ensuring the safety of media workers in the country. Zaheer was killed in a roadside bomb blast in Lashkargah city in Helmand when he was on his way to cover a military operation carried out by Afghan security forces in the province.
