President Ghani Assesses Overall Security Situation of Nangarhar

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, accompanied by a high-ranking government delegation, paid a visit to Nangarhar and met with local civil and military officials.
In the meeting, governor of Nangarhar Shah Mahmoud Miakhil, the 201st Corps commander Maj. Gen. Abdul Hadi Trin, provincial chief of national security Nazar Ali and police chief Emal Niazi first briefed the country’s President with overall security situation of the province, assuring of better coordination between defense and security forces in the province. They said that Daesh has been defeated as a result of continued military operations and better coordination between the country’s defense and security forces, added that 243 Daesh fighters with 625 women and children have surrendered to Afghan security forces. Local officials asserted that those surrendering to Afghan security forces were citizens of Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Maldives and Uzbekistan, saying that health facilities and food items were being provided to their women and children of the group and investigation was underway. Praising governor of Nangarhar and the province’s defense and security officials for their leadership and management, the country’s President said defeating the Daesh group was a big achievement not only for Nangarhar but for Afghanistan and the region, congratulate the achievement to the country’s ANDSF, local police and the people of Nangarhar. President Ghani asserted that women and children of the group should be behaved in accordance to Afghan tradition and culture, instructing the governor in this regard. The country’s President also asked the people of Nangarhar particularly those who have suffered from cruelty of Daesh to share their visions and suggestions in connection with destiny of Daesh fighters. President Ghani said that Afghan border forces should be recruited in framework of ANA corpses and deployed along Durand Line to defend the country. Praising the people of Nangarhar for their sacrifices and efforts towards suppressing Daesh fighters, the country’s President instructed relevant officials to pay particular attention to Shinwari, Momand and other tribes who have suffered lots of sacrifices in connection with defeating and sup- pressing the Daesh group. President Ghani also instructed local officials of Nangarhar to implement development projects in areas which have been cleared from presence of Daesh. The country’s President also considered better coordination between ANDSF and the people of Nangarhar as beneficial and issued necessary instructions in connection with further coordination for clearing the remained areas and conducting clearing operations in the province.
