Wednesday, March 27, 2019

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini here at the Sapidar Palace yesterday, a statement said.
Welcoming Mogherini to Kabul, Dr. Abdullah thanked the EU’s support of democratic processes and peace in Afghanistan, calling her as friend of Afghanistan, the statement from the CE press office added.
Meanwhile Mogherini said her union was supporting Afghan-led and owned peace process without any hidden agenda and would remain alongside Afghan people to back freedom of expression, human and women’s rights, democratic processes, rule of law and development in Afghanistan.
“There is no way to return back.  Peace is the only way forward.”
Both sides also discussed peace talks in Doha and regional cooperation for the process.  The EU official called Afghan-led peace talks as the only way for stability of the country and the region, the statement added.
Calling Afghan led peace talks as the only way forward, Chief Executive asked Pakistan and Taliban to take honest steps and ease the peace talks.
Praising EU financial assistance to Afghanistan elections, Dr. Abdullah said government was committed to hold transparent elections and the peace talks won’t affect the democratic processes.
The two sides discussed ongoing political, security and economic situation as well as the bilateral relation between European Union and Afghanistan, the statement added.
