Government’s Leadership Meeting Discusses Steps Against COVID-19

Kabul (BNA) The leadership meeting of the government, chaired by the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, was held on Thursday afternoon via video conference, a statement said.
At the meeting, Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danesh, following the decision of the Cabinet, presented to the meeting the phased plan for regulating government works and preventive measures against the spread of the coronavirus.
He added that the aim of the plan was to manage the problems caused by the outbreak of corona, reduce the level of infection and increase the capacity of health centers in the short, medium and long terms, according to presidential press office statement.
After a wide-ranging discussion of the phased plan to regulate works and preventive measures against the spread of coronavirus, the plan was amended and it was decided that Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh share details of the plan with the public and the government would soon implement it.
Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president, discussed the stage of challenges, saying that all departments should carefully study the views of the government and the president, and that they should coordinate their affairs and measures with the Afghan national program. Mohammad Yusuf Ghazanfar, the president's special envoy for economic development, trade and poverty reduction, said community and private sector volunteers, educational institutions and youth should be mobilized to work with the government to prevent the negative effects of the coronavirus.
Pointing to the proper management of the early stages of the coronavirus outbreak, President Ghani said that there were relative successes and challenges, stressing key role of Ulema, civil society and other capacities to increase public awareness and asked people to be realistic and hopeful about government programs.
The President called on the relevant Afghan agencies to work harder and together with the international community and utilize their experiences in fight against the coronavirus.
Also, the officials of the Ministry of Public Health briefed the session on capacity building of diagnostic centers, health and medical services, treatment, isolations as well as allocation of resources to the provinces. The President praised the efforts of the Ministry of Public Health and stressed that more work should be done in the areas of providing health services to the people, diagnosing and testing of the coronavirus. He added that the leadership of the government has coordinated the assistance and commitments of the international community, international organizations and banks, and that the people are not facing any major challenges.
