VP Criticizes Lack of Transparency In Government Recruitment Process

Kabul (BNA) Second Vice-President, Sarwar Danesh in EU annual conference titled ‘intensifying counter corruption in Afghanistan’ held yesterday at presidential palace criticized on appointment process of employees in government institutions.
Pointing to various aspects of corruption in government institutions, Danesh said NUG leading body has given over key authorization of appointments to ministers and general directors of independent organs in order to have necessary authorizations for implementation of reforms, but unfortunately the condition has caused that they did not have transparency in appointment process in government institutions and faced institutions with further challenges. “I should clearly and honestly notify that a number of ministries and institutions have misused of the authorizations given over to them. Today there are not strict and accurate mechanism and supervision in appointment process”, Daesh said, adding that another element which has caused corruption in government institutions was imbalanced system of salaries. Sometimes two employees doing similar jobs receive different salaries triggering discouragement and corruption in government organ. Second Vice-President stressed that Independent Reforms and Civil Service Commission should be renovated and strengthened and civil service law should be soon modified and the appointment process should be supervised, managed and controlled.
