Canada Pledges $440m As Aid To Afghanistan

WARSAW (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau here yesterday, a presidential statement said.
The two sides discussed issues related to mutual interest, including enhancing cooperation between the governments of Afghanistan and Canada.
The Prime Minister raised Canada’s longstanding and ongoing commitments to help Afghanistan build a sustainable future, a safe, secure and peaceful environment for its citizens and a country that is well governed and in control of its own destiny.
Praising the National Unity Government’s achievements in different fields, including women’s empowerment, security and developments, the Canadian prime minister said that his country would provide 170 Million USD in military sector and 270 Million USD in civil sector to Afghanistan in the upcoming three years.
Thanking Canada’s assistance to Afghanistan, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani asked the prime minister to help Afghanistan improve human resources and management capabilities.
Hinting to Afghanistan’s power generating capabilities, the president asked Canada to share its experience on this field with Afghanistan.
Meanwhile the Canadian prime minister said that his country is committed to share its experiences of electricity production and environment preservation with under developed countries, and would do the same with Afghanistan.
Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah also thanked Canada’s assistance to Afghanistan in different fields, calling the country a good friend and partner of Afghanistan.
The leaders also discussed governance and electoral reform as well as opportunities for cooperation to strengthen the respect for human rights in Afghanistan, especially for women and girls.
The Canadian Prime Minister also emphasized that Canada stands beside the Afghan people in the global struggle against terrorism in all its forms.
