IOM Assists $30 Million to Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) In a meeting chaired by the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah at the Spidar Palace, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the country’s Ministry of Refugees and Returnees signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of up to $30 million, a statement from the CE office said Tuesday.
At the meeting which was held early this (Tuesday) morning, Minister of Refugees and Returnees, Sayed Hussain Alemi Balkhi shared details about the last meetings and said that emergency aids have been provided to the displaced people, the statement quoted.
But the minister said that some 52,000 displaced families are in dire need of assistance in the country, according to the statement.
“The Ministry of Finance has a budget only for 15,000 families, while 35,000 displaced families are facing lack of budget,” said the minister as quoted by the statement.
The country’s Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah thanked the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for its assistance to the displaced families in Afghanistan and instructed the organs concerned for sharing cooperation with the ministry of finance on joint strategy to address the problem, the statement said.
At the end of the meeting both the Ministry of Refugees and Returnees and the IOM representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), under which, $30 million has been assisted to be spent for displaced families in Afghanistan.
