Senate Approves Anti-Money Laundering Law

Kabul (BNA) The Mishrano Jirga, upper house of the parliament, has approved the anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing laws yesterday.
The budgetary commission of Senate said the law consisting 8 chapters and 70 articles is vital for the financial system of the country.
He added with the adoption of the laws passed, Afghanistan’s banks would be saved from possible blacklisting by the World Bank.
A number of legislators during the Tuesday’s session expressed the laws would help fight against the corruption.
The legislators refused concerns of some of their fellow members that some of the articles of the laws were against the Islamic principles.
Meanwhile, a number of Kabul traders called on the government to finalize the law with President Karzai’s signature, so that the Afghan businessmen would not face problems while transactions with the world banks.
