Government seeks ways to Stop Violence before Intra-Afghan Talks: Minister Rahimy

Kabul (BNA) Special Representative of the President and the State Minister for Peace, Abdul Salam Rahimy, in his meeting with Tadamichi Yamamoto, UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan, and his accompanying delegation said that the government of Afghanistan will continue its efforts for the cessation of violence before the start of negotiations.
In this meeting, the State Minister for Peace thanked UNAMA for its cooperation in the Afghanistan peace process and emphasized on the effective role of this institution in the advancement of the Afghan peace process, the statement from the ministry told The Kabul Times.
Minister Rahimy provided information on recent developments in the peace process and called for UNAMA's continued support for the peace process. He also added that the Afghan people insist on the cessation of violence, and the government will continue its efforts to fulfill this demand before the start of negotiations.
Yamamoto reaffirmed UNAMA's continued support for the Afghanistan peace process and announced its readiness to cooperate more closely with the State Ministry for Peace.
Mentioning his recent visit to Iran, UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan emphasized on Pakistan's influence in the Afghanistan peace process, the ability of regional countries to facilitate the peace process, regional consensus and the role of these countries in the peace process.
