Double Policies, Holding 6th Round Of QCG

Saturday June 4, 2016

Kabul (BNA) Pakistani officials are stressing on holding 6th round of Quadrilateral Coordination Group (GCG) meeting while on one hand, Mulla Akhtar Mansour’s death, former leader of the Taliban has scattered the group and on the other disunity has intensified between the supporters of Mulla Mansour and Mulla Rassoul in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
A number of experts believe that the people of Mulla Rasoul, majority of whom are the relatives of Mulla Omar, the former supreme leader of the Taliban are willing to negotiate with the government. Because, after death of Molla Omar, the Taliban have rejected to accept Mulla Akhtar as his successor, and they had separated into two groups a move that caused some temporary conflicts to happen between the people of Mulla Mansour and Mulla Rassoul in western provinces of the country.
After selection of Muwlawi Haibatullah as the Taliban’s new leader and his deputies, Pakistani officials had made much effort to reunite the Taliban groups, but they faced failure. Tensions are still continuing between the Taliban groups and the Pakistani officials still couldn’t make the Taliban representatives present on the negotiation table of quadrilateral meetings and it failed to gain the U.S. trust in this regard.  It also caused the U.S. to even delay its economy and military aids to Pakistan. This is while that exerting pressures on Pakistan has caused the Taliban to face problems on one hand and on the other killing of former leader of the Taliban has negatively affected their morale.  Furthermore, double policy of Pakistani officials before Afghanistan in such a sensitive situation has not only caused its failure to bring and set the Taliban around the negotiation table but also it has divided them into many groups.  After death of Mulla Mansour, the U.S. warns that if the Taliban show any opposition with its troops in Afghanistan they will also be suppressed. The move of the U.S. can help decrease suicide attacks of the Taliban and prevent their destructive activities in Afghanistan. This is while that the 6th round of the QGG is expected to be held in Qatar or another country.
