Workshop On EVAW Under Islam Held

Kabul (BNA) A workshop on Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW) from the viewpoint of Islam was held in the Ministry of Information & Culture (MoIC) here yesterday, BNA reported.
Organized by Gender Directorate of the Ministry with financial support of a non-government organization, the ways and means to check violence against women were discussed. Addressing the workshop, Mahbouba Saadat the head of Gender Directorate of the MoIC said that gender emphasizes for equity between men and women.
She also noted that by holding such workshops she would continue to give awareness about gender to the employees of the ministry to become aware on equity of men and women in their working environment free of violence.
In his speech Zahir Hassan the in-charge of financial affairs of MoIC said that woman has special place in Islam, adding the holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) had valued the women rights and their role in the society.
He also noted that the fight to eliminate violence against women should begin from our family with the objective to have a society free of violence.
Speaking at the workshop the representative of the Kerama Hemaya-o-Huqoq-e-Bashar Association, Fraidon Azizi stated that the aim of the association is to fight eliminate violence against women and said every individual in the society should have awareness of the law and human rights and has to struggle to eliminate violence against women in the society.
