Construction of Substandard Townships Should Be Stopped, Senate

Kabul (BNA) The Senate in its session yesterday offered condolence over the death of those lost their lives in the earthquake that struck parts of Afghanistan and also expressed sympathy with the families of the victims.
In the session presided over by chairman Senate, Fazel Hadi Muslimyar, the house also called for halting construction of poor quality townships and residential blocks. More than 80 people have been confirmed dead, hundreds injured and thousands of houses were destroyed in the quake. The Senate also called upon national and international aid agencies and national traders to help with the quake-hit families. Keeping in mind the high number of casualties of the tremor, the Senate also suggested the government to announce national mourning day. During the session other issues including increasing security incidents in the country, the reported decision of Germany to deport Afghan refugees and problems of Afghans working in Saudi Arabia were discussed and urging the government to find solutions.
