Religious Scholars Urging Govt. Taliban For Announcing Permanent Ceasefire

Sunday August 5, 2018 Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan Countrywide Ulema Council, during a meeting urged the warring sides-government and the Taliban to announce a permanent ceasefire, BNA reported. BNA quoting Mawlavi Qeyamuddin Kashaf, the chairmen of Afghanistan Ulema Council, during the first meeting to investigate the country’s religious scholars’ offer for reforms in the society, said the country’s religious scholars were asking for the announcement of a permanent truce to may lead to direct peace talks between the government and the Taliban. Two months ago, nearly 3 thousand of religious scholars gathered in a meeting in the Loya Jirga Tent, to condemn war as illegal and asked for announcing of ceasefire by the two warring sides. The offer was accepted by the government observing the truce during the Eid-ul-Fitre, after which it was extended for ten days. As the Eid-ul-Adha is getting nearer, the country’s Ulema council chairmen on behalf of the countrywide religious scholars once again asked for announcing permanent ceasefire between the government and the Taliban.
