US to Continue Cooperation With Afghanistan, Gen. Votel

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani received US Army CEETCOM’s commander Gen. Joseph Votel at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, Arg said in a statement.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on intra-Afghan peace talks, equipping and strengthening of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), reforms process in security and defensive organs, joint fighting terrorism and US strategy effects on South Asia, according to the statement.
Extending his sympathy to the president and people of Afghanistan over recent terrorist attack in Kandahar province, Gen. Votel congratulated successful holding of parliamentary elections and praised the ANDSF efforts on its ensuring security.
He also vowed that as an international strategic partner, US would stand by the people and government of Afghanistan, the statement continued.
Thanking Gen. Votel for extending his sympathy, President Ghani appreciated US assistances with Afghanistan in different sections.
The president said a consensus with Afghanistan in different sections.
The president said a consensus has been created in national, regional and international level on peace negotiations, adding we would welcome any move that leads to the beginning of intra-Afghan peace talks and causes ensuring lasting peace in Afghanistan.
