President Ghani, US President-elect Donald Trump Discuss ‘Grave’ Threat From Terrorists

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and US president-elect Donald Trump held phone conversation, a statement from presidential press office said.
According to the statement, President Ghani beside congratulating Trump and his family over his victory in US presidential election stated that the bilateral ties between the two countries are firm on the basis of mutual interest, hoping such ties to be continued during the new president’s tenure. Praising US assistance and sacrifices in war on terror, President Ghani said that Afghanistan’s commitment and sacrifices in war on terror has made the US to be the pivotal partner of Afghanistan in fight against terrorism and extremism in the region, the statement added. “US assistance for development of Afghanistan is at the early stage of fruition. Continuation of such assistance would pave the way for Afghans to utilize their natural resources and reach self-sufficiency,” President Ghani said, as quoted in the presidential statement. President Ghani went on saying that United States has contributed a lot in development of mining sector in Afghanistan, adding Afghans are committed to extend such cooperation. US President-elect Donald Trump said that Afghanistan is rich for natural resources, adding his administration would spare no effort to help Afghan people in effective utilizing of such resources, the statement added. Praising Afghan National Security and Defense Forces fight against terrorism, the Donald Trump said that US would stand alongside Afghan people during his presidential tenure. According to presidential statement, both sides also discussed fight against terrorism and its threat to regional stability, in particular Afghanistan, emphasizing on joint need to fight against such phenomenon. At the end, the US president-elect invited President Ghani to visit the United States, so that to further hold talks on topics related to mutual interests. Besides accepting the invitation, President Ghani also invited Donald Trump to visit Afghanistan. The US president-elect promised to visit Afghanistan, in particular his country’s forces in the coming future, the statement concluded.
