U.S. and UN Condemn Kabul Recent Attacks

Friday September 7, 2018 Kabul (BNA) The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the US have condemned the twin bombings targeting civilians at a sports club in Kabul. At least 21 people including journalists were killed and more than 80 others wounded in Wednesday’s attack. The first blast occurred when a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the gym at a wrestling event. A car bomb followed when first responders reached the scene. Two journalists from the Tolo News were among the dead and several other reporters were injured. UNAMA condemned the attacks against the Shiites minority and expressed deep concern over the killing of journalists. The UN mission extended deep condolences to families who lost loved ones and wished a quick recovery to the injured. In a separate statement, the US embassy in Kabul also denounced the terrorist attack, which took the lives of many young people. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of all the victims. We stand with the people and Afghan government in their fight against terrorism and support our Afghan partners’ cause of Peace,” the statement said. Ansari
