One Hundred Thirteen Insurgents Killed Within A Week, Says MoI

Kabul (BNA) Spokesman of Ministry of Interior says registration of two million people for participation in upcoming presidential elections shows success and ability of ANP in maintaining of security in the country.
Sadiq Sediqi, spokesman for Ministry of Interior in a news conference held the other day said, “ANP has complete ability to maintain security for holding presidential and provincial council elections scheduled to be held next year, adding all Afghan citizens can participate in the elections in a secure environment.”
Sediqi stressed that maintaining of security for the elections was in the top priority of MoI.
“Ministry of Interior has set up a security commission led by senior security deputy for the Ministry General Mohammad Ayoub Salangi for security of Loya Jirga to be held within a month.
The commission will work with other relevant organs on overall security plan,” the spokesman said. Sediqi further said ANP along with other security organs had launched 62 clearing operations in the past one week in Kandahar, Helmand, Paktia, Farah and Ghazni provinces as a result 113 insurgents killed, 40 arrested and a large quantity of explosives and ammunitions discovered and seized.
He added that counter narcotics police for MoI discovered and confiscated 7651kg narcotics in Balkh, Kabul, Helmand and Farah provinces where 47 people were also arrested in connection of drug-trafficking.
In the news conference, Sediqi asserted that Afghan security forces had no presence in four districts of the country. “Efforts are underway for cleaning up the districts from presence of insurgents,” he added.
Spokesman for MoI considered shutting down of Germany embassy in Kabul as incorrect information made by irresponsible organs, saying they reject any security threats against German embassy and other diplomatic missions in Kabul.
