Kabul (BNA) Officials to Ministry of Education (MoE) say for improvement and better education quality new education programs and better plans are underway in current education year of 1397.
In an exclusive interview with The Kabul Times correspondent, Mohammad Kabir Haqmal, head of publications and media of MoE said: “You know that each country requires to improve its education quality. Therefore, the ministry of education plans to implement its five-year working plan prepared by the ministry for improvement of education quality in the country. Based on the plan, all school teachers will be professional, all students will have access to textbooks, education curriculum will be amended and a sound education management free of corruption will be created.”
In connection with schools that have no buildings yet, Haqmal said although ministry of education has made lots of efforts towards construction of standard buildings for schools across the country, unfortunately there were still a number of schools that lack standard buildings. He assured that MoE was determined to construct 6,000 schools in coming two years across the country.
Haqmal also stressed that nearly 8,000 teachers would be appointed in first phase and 18,000 others would be appointed in second phase in current solar year, adding that nearly 27 new provincial directors of education have been recently appointed and would soon start their work in provinces and the process would be implemented in all provinces of the country.
Related to prevention from corruption in ministry of education, the MoE official said: “Work on reforms in the ministry is underway as a committee has been tasked to identify all aspects of corruption within the ministry and education departments in capital and provinces of the country so corruption can be prevented.”
It was said that a large number of schools were remain closed in different parts of the country. For reopening of schools that were kept closed last year, Haqmal said that with close cooperation of elders and dignitaries, the ministry of education reopened a number of schools in various provinces in 1396 and the process would continue in current year, adding that civil society activists have promised that they would launch home to home campaign for reopening of closed schools across the country.
He hoped that no schools would remain closed anymore in the country.
Pointing that ministry of education has distributed lands to nearly 85,000 teachers so far, head of publications and media said the country’s President on first day of the education year in Kabul instructed ministry of urban development and independent land authority to prepare a plan based on which how many teachers should be granted with residential lands and apartments.
He also asserted that lack of textbooks would be soon addressed as ministry of education was working on publishing and distributing nearly 50 million textbooks. He enumerated security and lack of budget as challenges and problems facing ministry of education
