Fleeing of 335 Prisoners From Ghazni Jail Is Another Gap In Management

Tuesday, September 15, 2015
Kabul (BNA) Mass fleeing of a number of prisoners from Ghazni province prison demonstrated a problem of management and once again became obvious that the country is still vulnerable against terrorists’ attacks.
According to the report of BNA, the guards of Ghazni prison had passed a difficult night because a number of invaders attacked the prison and succeeded to provide the ground for the majority of the prisoners to escape.
The ministries of interior releasing a statement acknowledged that from out of 436 prisoners in Ghazni prison 335 of them have escaped. There were 148 prisoners who were engaged in terrorist activities and 208 people who were in prison due to criminal acts among the prisoners who have fled the prison.
Police have succeeded to prevent 81 prisoners to flee. So far, among 335 prisoners who have fled, only three of them arrested again.
According to the politicians collective flee of 335 criminals indicates a fragile security situation and is disappointing news. Because returning of 335 criminals and murderers back in to the society will further deteriorate the situation and strengthen the terrorists, extremists, and criminals.
Although the ministry of interior considers the reason of the prisoners flee, the mass and suicide attack of Taliban but the political experts ask the relevant authorities to present a reasonable response in that regard. Because the threat of Taliban against military installations, prisons and state owned institutions across the country especially in Ghazni province which has a fragile security was predictable.
All prisons, military installations and other state owned institution in the capital and provincial centers are at the focus of attention even Kabul the capital of the country with concrete wall has named fortified city. Ghazni has seen grave terrorist incidents repeatedly therefore; preparation for preventing and dispelling terrorist attacks should be more serious. Considering the situation, the people ask how the terrorists succeeded to open their way in to Ghazni prison.
Management of the prisons of the country earlier also had their problems but still the people have not forgotten the collective flee of prisoners from Surposa prison, Kandahar province. Collective flee of prisoner from Takhar, Sur-e-Pul prisons and fleeing a number of prisoners from Farah prison in Eid day are examples of conspiracies that indicate that the management of prisons has problems.
It should say that in Afghanistan except two or three prisons have not built according standards. Even in provinces, houses have rented for the purpose, which have not designed for housing prisoners.
Mismanagement, lack of professional staff, ignorance in performing duties, some sensitivities inside the prisons, insufficiency of intelligence service information, non-standard prisons are the factors that lead  in to the incidents like one in Ghazni. Therefore, it is to the relevant authorities to consider the above factors in order to prevent the occurrence of such incidents in the future.  Abdul Khalil Minawee
