Atlantic Council Confers “Distinguished Leadership Award” To President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) The Atlantic Council conferred the outstanding leadership award to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani during his visit to the United States of America. In a meeting organized by the Institute for Peace, USA and Atlantic Council in Washington DC the other day, President Ghani in his speech strongly condemned the barbaric attack on the 27-year-old Farkhunda and murdering her in the center of Kabul, adding legal and serious action would be taken against those involved in the brutal attack. The duty of more than 10 police has been suspended and they are under investigation, the president said. With regard to last year presidential elections, the president said that majority of Afghans eligible to vote including 38 percent women had used their franchise in the polls. On peace process, the president said that our first step is to reach peace with Pakistan, adding our definition from problem was that problems exist between the two countries and Pakistan leaders have not ruled the fact. Stability in Afghanistan is the key for stability in the region, President Ghani pointed out. With regard to the so-called Islamic State or Daesh grouping, the president termed the armed grouping as a threat to Afghanistan and the region, adding the Daesh doesn’t recognize the borders and rapidly spreading.   President Ghani also noted that what the Daesh grouping doing is against the teaching of Islamic values.
