Head of Kabul Ulema Council Assassinated by Armed Man

Kabul (BNA) The head of Kabul Ulema Council gunned down by armed man in the capital Kabul city yesterday.
According to BNA report, Abdul Basir Haqqani was found dead on a road in Chehel Sutun area at around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Some eyewitnesses said, he was shot in the head.
Meanwhile, Najib Danesh spokesman for Ministry of Interior reported from arresting of a perpetrator of the incident.
The death comes just a few days after a huge explosion ripped through Uranos Hotel in Kabul city, killing more than 60 people, including religious scholars.
Similarly, a bomber detonated his explosives among the participants of Friday prayers in a mosque in an army base in the eastern province of Khost, killing at least 15 people and wounding 30 others.
Afghanistan’s Ulema Council is a government-funded, but autonomous body of religious clerics. It was set up after the fall of the Taliban in 2002 and has a presence across 34 provinces of Afghanistan.
Their role is mainly to perform religious ceremonies, advise the government on matters of Islamic jurisprudence.
