Kunduz To Be Soon Cleared of Militants: Officials

Saturday, May 02, 2015

Kabul (BNA)   Kunduz is not at the merge of collapse, but is expected to soon be cleared of the insurgents, with the operation continuing, unless the last rebel’s fighter is killed or arrested, security officials assured the people in a news conference, after war on insurgents entered its fifth day.
While the government forces are now in their more than a week of combat in the troubled province, Chance is with the security forces after their fresh convoy reached the first line of war, forcing the government armed oppositions to flee the scene and seek asylum in remote areas.
Over 190 militants, including commanders have so far been reported to be killed, dozens wounded and as many arrested during the counterterrorism offensives in the northern province, where Seddiq Seddiqi, spokesman for the ministry of interior told reporters that after the arrival of fresh complementary troops, operation against the Taliban achieved good results in some instable districts including Imam Sahib, Qala-e-Zal and Gurtipa.
“The province would be cleared of the insurgent in the near future,” said Seddiqi who rejected any collapse report as baseless and a mere rumor.
According to him, some house members have exaggerated about Kunduz conflicts, something, he blamed to have concerned the people and even laid negative impact on the security forces morale, as well some individuals based in Kunduz provided inaccurate reports about the incident.
He went on as saying that high ranking security officials were in Kunduz to lead the war.
Meanwhile, Kunduz provincial police chief, General Abdul Saboor said security forces have retreated insurgents’ offensives in several fronts, leaving heavy casualties, with tens of their dead bodies remained in the battlefield. The success could increase morale of the security forces in war on insurgents, he said earlier in a briefing with media.
“With the arrival of the fresh forces from Kabul, we could fully retreat the rebels,” said the provincial police chief.
In the meantime, Presidential spokesman, Ajmal Abedi said the security forces proved that they could foil insurgents’ offensives in several fronts and that they were now in offensive and can ensure security of the country.
Calling war on terrorists in Kunduz a milestone, some military experts said the province is a gate of north to the center and other provinces of the country, and that the terrorists could disturb security of the country by their influence from the north into the center.
A security expert, Omar Safi said the security forces should do their best to prevent even a step forward from the rebels into the province.
The security forces should use their tactical withdrawal and secure people lives and properties, as the move would help bridge gap between the people and the government, he said expressing hope on the security forces’ capability to suppress insurgency in the country.
The government armed oppositions have reportedly sustained heavy casualties during their unsuccessful offensives in several parts of northern Kunduz province.
