Torture, Harassment of Refugees Are Violations of International Treaties

KABUL (BNA) Zabiullah Mujahid spokesman of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, asked the Islamic Republic of Iran to receive Afghan refugees in the same way as in the past.

Mujahid also called on the Iranian authorities to allow Afghan refugees to return voluntarily.

Zabiullah Mujahid remarks come while reports and tapes have been published on social media about the misbehavior of Iranians against Afghan refugees.

But Iranian officials and diplomats in Kabul say the tapes are fake, Bahador Aminian the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul denied misbehavior of Iranian of security officials against Afghan refugees

Recently Tapes are circulating in social media showing Iranian Misbehavior and harassment against Afghan refugees.

“This is a” deliberate and planned action aimed at undermining relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, ” said Aminian during a meeting with Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

But what is debatable is the daily deportation of thousands of Afghan refugees from Iran, Afghan and foreign media have said; In December, Iranian security officials forced between 2,500 and 4,000 Afghan refugees to return to Afghanistan daily.

At the same time, the phenomenon of migration has a long history among human societies, and in the current state, when social life is significantly expanding and complex, the idea of supporting and cooperating with fellow human beings in the global legal system has become especially important.

Legal, international conventions and pacts in the defense, protection and cooperation of refugees ‌ have been manifested and documented, including the 1951 Geneva Convention, the 1966 Economic, Social and Cultural Pact.

Under Article 44 of the 1951 Convention and the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of discrimination against Women, the return, torture and harassment of refugees is not only a violation of these conventions but also a clear discrimination against refugees.

According to international conventions, the human rights of immigrants are considered a right for refugees ‌‌, and host countries are required to deal with migrants in a humane manner and to provide them with adequate living conditions.
