Traditional Silk Production Globally Registered in the Name of Afghanistan, 6 Other Countries

KABUL (BNA) “UNESCO” has announced that on the 4th day of the 17th meeting of the Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is being held in the city of Rabat, Morocco, traditional silk productions in the name of Afghanistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan have been registered.

Silk production has been favored in Afghanistan since bygone times.

Herat is the main source of silk production in the country, from which largely clothes, handkerchiefs, and tents are produced.

Silk is obtained from the cocoons of silkworms that feed on the leaves of mulberry trees.
