President Ghani Urges Governors To Encourage People For Voter Registration Process

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani talked about various issues with governors, provincial security officials and university chairmen during a video conference in the Presidential Palace yesterday, a presidential statement said.
President Ghani on Thursday asked governors to encourage people to participate in the voter registration process and avoid interfering in the democratic practice.
The president talked about people’s participation in the voters registration process, fighting corruption and sharing information with journalists and researchers.
He said that election was a national responsibility and a government could not function properly in absence of transparent polls. The Wolesi Jirga and district council elections would be held on the schedule.
President Ghani urged governors that they should follow a non-interference policy in the election affairs, ‘the same as the government leadership follows.”
The president also stressed on reforms and fighting against corruption and thanked from suggestions of governors and university chairmen during the conference.
He directed governors so help with journalists and researchers in sharing information with them without discrimination.
At the end of the videoconference, attorney general Farid Hamidi, Minister of Higher Education, Chairman of the Independent Election Commission and head of Ulema’s overall council spoke related to people’s participation in election and fighting against corruption.
