UN Introduced his New Senior Representative for Afghanistan

KABUL (BNA) The United Nations secretary-general António Guterres introduced Markus Potzel of Germany as his new deputy special representative (Political) for Afghanistan in United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

The United Nations in a statement announced that Mr. Potzel will start his duty as the new UNAMA deputy for Afghanistan.

Mr. Potzel succeeds Mette Knudsen of Denmark, who previously served as the deputy of UNAMA for Afghanistan.

In addition, Potzel severed as German Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Commissioner for Crisis Management, Ambassador of Germany to Afghanistan, and Head of the German Federal Foreign Office Middle East Division.

In the meantime, earlier the head of UNAMA Deborah Lyons’s mission in Afghanistan ended, and yet there is no comment on who will appoint her successor.

Ms. Lyons in her latest message, after her mission completion, stressed the need for the longed UNAMA, Human rights, and humanitarian aid operations in Afghanistan.
