UN Representative Traveled to Nangarhar to Assess Humanitarian Crisis

JALALABAD (BNA) UN official traveled to Nangarhar in the east to assess the humanitarian crisis.

Flippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) told on a trip Nangarhar that the UN continues to provide assistance to fight the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

He said that they are trying to cover all the needy families, including the internally displaced in Nangarhar, with the help of this organization.

Haji Mullah Mohammad Naeem Akhund, Governor of Nangarhar, in a meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, thanked the organization for its assistance to needy families in Afghanistan and called for increased assistance.

He said that security is provided in Nangarhar and it needs a good platform to provide humanitarian services to the people.

Nangarhar’s director of refugee and repatriations Akramuddin Maftoon, told the meeting that the eastern province had only 50,000 displaced families.

He added that thousands of other Nangarhar residents were returning from Iran and Pakistan, all in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said it would increase its assistance to those in need in Nangarhar.
