UNAMA Seeks International Coalition to Support Afghanistan’s Banking Sector

KABUL (BNA): Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Deborah Lyons head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to discuss ways possible to engage the country’s banking sector with international cooperation banking.

In a press release, the Afghan foreign ministry said today, Sunday that the head of the UN Office in Afghanistan shared details on her recent visit to Kazakhstan and her efforts seeking international cooperation to support the Afghan private and banking sector.

Ms. Lyons said that the international community will not allow the banking sector in Afghanistan to be undermined and that efforts are being made to address the challenges of the country’s banking sector.

The Head of UNAMA said that she was working to support Afghanistan’s economy and private sector in coordination with international aid agencies.

In the meeting, Muttaqi, while acknowledging the cooperation of UNAMA, praised the results of the visits and the efforts of Deborah Lyons, in attracting international cooperation with Afghanistan.

He said: “the Islamic Emirate supports the activities of international aid organizations and provides mandatory facilities for aid organizations to proceed with their operations”.
