War Wounded Increase 21 Pc Than The Past: UN

Kabul (BNA) The number of war wounded in current year has increased 21 pc, said a OCHA report adding that in current year 64000 people have been wounded due to conflicts in Afghanistan and the number of civilian casualties including women  in the last nine months has reached to over 8000 including. The OCHA report adds that intensification of war and terrorists attacks on religious targets has been the main reason behind increase of casualties. Based on a new UN report, since July 2017to September of current year, every day 80 attacks have taken place by armed insurgents that shows fivefold increase than 2008. At the same time, members of civil society and experts consider protection of civilians life responsibility of the Afghan government said, the Afghan political system should put safety of civilians at the top of its priority.
Civil society activist Aziz Rafiyee said, continuation of war and armed conflicts is one of the basic discussions as civilians have sustained most damages. He added, safety of civilians has unfortunately been slightly focused in Afghanistan and the government has no certain plan for citizens’ security. We want the warring factions not to use civilians as a scapegoat and for political objectives. Talking on the protection of civilians, MoD spokesman MG Dawlat Waziri said, the MoD is committed to prevent civilian casualties and during operations civilians must not be damaged, while the terrorists cause increase of civilians’ casualties with mining, suicide attacks and explosions.  A number of media men express concern on increase of civilian casualties during wars and requested quick end of conflicts and acceleration of peace process.
Mujeeb Khelwatgar CE of NAI or support of free media said the Afghan government is obliged to ensure safety of citizens at any cost and create trust among people that protects their life and property. He added, safety of citizens depends on people close cooperation with government specially security forces. Beside security and safety of civilians, the government should take away the war from residential areas and should try not to damage civilians during war and attacks on insurgents’ positions. In recent years, civilian casualties have been one of the main concerns of people.
