Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met Pakistan President Arif Alvi and discussed security, economic, counter-terrorism issues, according to a statement.
Both leaders had discussed the eradication of poverty, expanding regional cooperation and mutual respect to the sovereignty and integrity of the two countries, the presidential press office said yesterday.
Pakistan president welcomed President Ghani and his delegation to Pakistan and termed it appositive move in promoting relationship between the two countries.
Meanwhile, President Ghani said the decision to visit Pakistan and normalize relationship came after the demand from the Peace Jirga held recently and pledged to open a new chapter of cooperation and good relationship, the statement added.
Later, the president participated in a dinner hosted by the President of Pakistan, according to the statement.
According to another report, President Ghani on Thursday also met with neighboring country’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and hoped his trip from Islamabad would produce a positive outcome, the presidential statement said. Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi during the meeting said that the Afghan president’s said he was visiting Pakistan based on the suggestion of Consultative Loya Jirga on Peace and for strengthening the relations between the two states and peoples.
The President also insisted that the two countries’ bilateral relationship should be based on mutual respect and state-to-state ties. He hoped his visit to the neighboring country would bring positive outcome for both nations and encourage Pakistan to play its role in regional cooperation and connectivity.
