KABUL (BNA) Officials in United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) say they have started traveling to countries in the region to address the plight of Afghan refugees.
UNHCR Deputy Chief of Mission in Kabul Kelly Clements said during a meeting ON Tuesday with Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, Deputy Foreign Minister, that she was planning to travel to countries hosting Afghan refugees, Clementes added that she will discuss resolving the plights of Afghan refugees in meetings to be held with officials from host countries.
In the meantime, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) deputy chief of mission has assured cooperation with the Government of Afghanistan on the resettlement of internally displaced families and repatriations.
She stressed that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees would work together to create a “favorable environment” for internally displaced persons and repatriations in Afghanistan.
Over the past four decades, millions of Afghans have migrated to the region world for the cause of war, insecurity, and economic hardship.
According to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations, more than 6 million Afghan refugees live in Iran and Pakistan itself.
The Ministry of Refugees says that most Afghan refugees in neighboring countries do not have legal residency documents and face many problems.
According to reports, the process of forced deportation of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries has recently increased, and thousands of Afghan refugees have been deported from these countries in recent months.
