People Want Prosecution of Those Committed Fraud During Elections: Aakifi

Kabul (BNA) The chief of Electoral Reform Commission, Shah Sultan Aakifi said yesterday that the people of Afghanistan wanted the judicial trial of those who committed fraud during the past elections.
He made the remarks in meeting with a number of senators here yesterday.
Briefing the senators about his team’s visit to eight provinces of the country and discussing with people, Aakifi said he talked with 1500 people in provinces and 500 people in the capital city Kabul, adding some 90 percent of citizens are supporting reforms in the electoral system.
Many people want that the number of voters should be identified and many more want to know the number of constituency in the country.
Some of the people demanded that the criteria for contesting House of People should be having the degree of BA and MA.
In some provinces, he said that people wants to see more women in the parliament.
Terming the formation of electoral commission as good omen for bringing reforms in the election system, the senators urged for early reforms in the electoral system.
