Kabul (BNA) The 3rd Book Exhibition which opened recently to mark Book Week and Book Reading in Babur Shah Book Center was over here yesterday.
In his concluding speech, the Minister of Information and Culture Abdul Bari Jahani that the first verse of Quran began with “Iqra” which means “read”, adding the high rate of education and book reading help society to achieve prosperity and virtually the foundation of developed countries is high rate of education.
In some countries the people even reading newspaper on vehicles while traveling to pass time, the minister added. Minister Jahani expressed hope that the Book Week would change into Book Year and promote reading culture in the country that each Afghan to read book throughout year whenever have time. Head of state-run newspapers Dr. Shamsul Haq Aryanfar and chief of Babur Shah Book Center also spoke on the occasion and emphasized for promotion of book reading culture among countrymen.
Appreciation letters were also given by Minister Jahani to some staffs and employees of Baihaqi Publication and others at the end of the meeting.
