Afghanistan Wins First Gold In Asian Indoor And Martial Arts Games

Kabul (BNA) Hussain Bakhsh Safari won first gold for Afghanistan after beating his three rivals on the opening day of fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan.
The 23-year-old clinched the highest medal after beating hosting country’s Dawut Nurryew, Kuwwat Yazalakow and Kyrgyzstan’s Ariet Bekishov in the men’s ju-jitsu, 62kg category.
Jawid Ahmad Amiri won silver medal in traditional wrestling discipline in 62kg weight after defeating Uzbejistan’s Abdurasul Khabibullaev and Turkmenistan’s Tirkigeldi Ayazow.
Around 6,000 athletes in 65 delegations are participating in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Games in Ashgabat for 21 different sports for 12 days.
The official inauguration of the event was held yesterday Afghan President Ahraf Ghani is among other leaders attending the inauguration in the Olympic stadium in Ashgabat.
