Chief Executive Reviews Earthquake Damages, Instructs Line Ministers To Dispatch Relief Team

Kabul (BNA) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan chairing the High Commission for Disaster, reviewed the damages caused by the Friday night’s earthquake.
Expressing satisfaction over the result of the earthquake, the country’s Chief Executive said that a small number of our citizens received light injuries which no longer pose distress.
The Chief Executive ordered relevant organs to take necessary arrangements for dispatching the first aid items to the affected families. Based on the sound reports, the late Friday night’s magnitude 6.3 earthquake left 21 residential houses damaged in Badakhshan, Parwan, Baghlan, Takhar and Kunar provinces. The Chief Executive instructed the Ministry of Public Works and other line ministries to take necessary measures and keep open the highways and connecting routes to Salang pass during the winter.
Mohammad Aslam Seyas, deputy of the Directorate for Management Authority briefed the session of their activities and said that 319 areas of the country recognized as the avalanche affected zones and the necessary steps have been taken on the aspect. “Two air aviation stations which was donated by the Italian government have been established in Salang pass and would be extended to other provinces through the fiber optic”, Seyas added, saying that Japan donated 106 wiper machines which will be used to keep Salang pass open during the winter.
The Ministries of Refugees and Repatriates and Public Health assured the session of their measures in providing foodstuffs to around 200,000 needy families as well as to collect addicts from Kabul till January 5th and would be provided them shelters with necessary treatments.
The session also discussed air pollutions and considered using plastic tires in brick kilns, coal and low standard fuels the main reason behind increased air pollutions and the secretariat for the Council of Ministers was tasked to establish a committee and start working on making the air pollution get reduced. The National Environment Protection Agency was also tasked to prepare a regulation and send it to Council of Ministers for approval, so that serious steps be taken on the aspect. The Chief Executive also tasked the commission to review the number of IDPs in the country and present a sound report to the commission, so that necessary arrangements are taken in this regard.
