Sunday, February 16, 2014
Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai in an interview with Turkish State Radio-TV in Ankara touching on the security and defensive pact between Afghanistan and the US said that if Afghanistan gives bases to the US or sign the security pact with that country or NATO, this pact should pave the way for peace in Afghanistan.
Presidential press office said BNA, he added that I know that a great number of Taliban are opting for peace and they want to return to their country so Pakistan and the US should assist us so that the peace process with the Taliban starts.
He stressed that if the security pact with the US is only for creation of the US bases in Afghanistan and does not lead to peace in the country, this pact with bear no benefit to us.
He added that war with terrorism should not be in the villages and Afghans’ homes. I always emphasized that the method the US and NATO has taken for struggle against terrorism is incorrect. They should concentrate on their hideouts, financial sources, centers of their training and the ideological sources of terrorism.
He clarified that the US has her interests here and acts as per her interests for her presence, however, towards this presence the Afghans should gain peace and security and only in condition of peace and security we will be partners and their ally and this should a link for partnership and mutual benefits should be taken into consideration. With respect to the peace process in Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai said that there is difference between the peace talks and misuse of Afghanistan’s situation.
We want peace talks but we shall not allow any foreign power so misuse the political situation of Afghanistan under the name of peace talks. Peace is a need. I know that Afghan Taliban wants peace talks. They are Afghan and sons of Afghanistan. They also have the right and the responsibility to live in Afghanistan. He added I wish that Afghan Taliban immediately start peace talks with the High Peace Council.
