9 Private Hospitals Shut Down, 159 Pharmaceutical Companies Deactivated

Kabul (BNA) Minister of Public Health says he will implement serious reforms in private hospitals and pay serious attention to improvement of medical condition in the country. The statement made after nine private hospitals were closed up by a tasked panel of the ministry of public health, while licenses of 40 companies importing medicines form abroad and 119 other companies manufacturing medicines have been invalidated. Speaking in a news conference yesterday in Kabul, minister of public health Dr. Ferozuddin Geroz said, “Based on pervious pledge made by MoPH, the ministry has adopted serious measures for improvement of services in hospitals and during the past two months, services of nearly 54 private hospitals have been reviewed in Kabul city, adding nine of the hospitals have been shut down, 28 hospitals changed to clinic and 18 others given opportunity to take step towards addressing their problems.”
Dr. Feroz said the hospitals were facing with various problems such as lack of building, medical and necessary equipment, operation rooms, professional medical employees and diagnostics and pharmacy.
Minister of Information and Culture asserted that the respective hospitals could get new licenses again only if they completed the ministry’s health regulations within three months. At the news conference, Dr. Feroz added the ministry’s next step would be to oversee and review private hospitals and those companies manufacturing and importing medicines from foreign countries to Kabul and provinces.
