Coalition Forces’ Nicholson Assures Taliban Failure

BRUSSELS (BNA) Top US and NATO forces’ commander, Gen. John Nicholson has assured that the Taliban would never succeed in Afghanistan, as according to him, the alliance commitments were behind the Afghan forces and government.
After the two-day NATO foreign ministerial meeting, Nicholson in Brussels of Belgium said, “The Taliban were destroying Afghanistan, but the Afghan government and forces were rebuilding it.” Afghanistan Security situation was reviewed at the meeting in which foreign ministers from the NATO member states including Afghan Foreign Minister, Salahuddin Rabbani have participated, reaffirming Warsaw pledge on Afghanistan. In the summit, the US, NATO and other allies promised long-term military along with political and financial support to the war-torn nation. “Our commitments send a message to the enemies of Afghanistan that they would never succeed,” said Nicholson who praised the Afghan forces to be working day and night for a bright future of their country, where the main aim of both US and NATO forces was prevent terrorist to turn Afghanistan into their safe haven again. “Afghan forces this year were put the test and they showed great performance and confidence.” According to him, NATO would continue with training and advising mission in the country, beyond 2016, deploying more than 12,000 troops from the coalition nations. Praising the Afghan Special Forces, Nicholson said they launched 70 per cent of independent anti-insurgent operation in the country.
