Kabul (BNA) There is a need for serious fight on narcotics’ processing, production and trafficking, a phenomenon which is considered to be the main source of funding terrorist groups in the country, a statement from the presidential palace said on Monday.
The statement said that peace and stability would be difficult to achieve unless fight is done against criminal economy, adding the government has taken necessary measures to eliminate drug sources throughout the country.
For the first time, the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) backed by the U.S –led Resolute Support mission conducted special operations on Sunday night to eliminate the processing centers of drugs in the country, the statement added. The operations are mostly expected to focus on some targets in Helmand province, mainly those processing centers located in Sangin, Musa Qala, Kajaki, and Nawzad districts.
Eight major drug processing centers were targeted and eliminated in a series of airstrikes conducted on Sunday night, the statement went on to say.
The campaign to counternarcotic is one of the government’s strategic goals, the statement continued.
Narcotics have negatively affected millions of lives and it is hoped the operations to be effective.
