Explosion at Coal Mine in Baghlan Martyred Worker

Pul-e-Khomri (BNA) An explosion in one of the Asheshta coal mines in Taleh and Barfak district of Baghlan yesterday evening martyred one worker and left three others trapped inside the coal mine.

Riyazuddin Sharifi, head of the Northern Coal Company, told a local correspondent of BNA that the explosion caused by the condensation of gas took place in the coal mine of Kafsh-e-Andaz village of Taleh and Barfak district.

According to Sharifi, the coal mine, which is under Taliban control, is one of 112 unplanned coal mine in Taleh and Barfak district from which coal extraction is done in a non-technical and non-standard manner.

He added that one worker was killed in the blast, three were trapped inside the coal mine and two others were rescued.

Efforts are underway to rescue those trapped inside the coal mine, the head of the Northern Coal mine said.

He added: “We are trying to standardize the process of coal extraction in the northern mines.”
