ICRC Concerns Increase of Poverty in Afghanistan

KABUL (BNA) International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed concern over rising poverty and hunger in Afghanistan.

The World Food Programme (WFP) says more than 23 million people in Afghanistan are malnourished and in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Eloi Fillion, tweeted Wednesday that he is concern about the poor economic situation of families and the spread of poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan.

“People in Afghanistan are more at risk of poverty today than ever before, and more needs to be done to support them,” he said.

“Here in Kabul, I witness a large number of beggars, including women, standing in line at bakeries, desperately waiting for a piece of bread,” he said in a video.

The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross says he will continue to provide assistance to needy Afghans.
